RICHARD MILLE’S CHRISTMAS CRACKER: THE ULTRA-THIN RM 33-02 AUTOMATIC

Combines carbon and rose gold

Is there still enough time to add this to the Christmas list? Santa will know where to find one, right? Tell him it’s the Richard Mille RM 33-02 Automatic, which is a follow-on from the original RM 33 introduced in 2011. Yes, like that one, this is an ultra-thin round watch. But can you tell him to hurry? Only 140 are being made.

What else does Santa need to know? Well, unlike the original RM 33, this newer version is made from Carbon TPT and rose gold, with sapphire crystals on the front and back. The 41mm case, dial and finish have also been updated to make the watch seem sportier.

The RM 33-02 is powered by the skeletonised RMXP1 calibre in Grade 5 titanium. Regulated by a variable-inertia balance oscillating at 3Hz, it’s wound by an off-centre platinum micro-rotor that considerably reduces the movement’s total thickness to 2.6mm.

Other details include the wet sandblasted and Titalyt-treated baseplate, the microblasted, stretched and satin-finished surfaces, and the anglage, produced entirely by hand. By juxtaposing soft gold with darker Carbon TPT, and by combining the graphic codes of the lifestyle and sports spheres, Richard Mille is merging contradictory worlds.

Water-resistant to 30m, with a power reserve of 45 hours, the RM 33-02 is provided with a rubber strap.
